Nearly all baby boy chicks are killed immediately by grinding or drowning, because they are not needed for their breast meat or to produce eggs (Youtube proof) 6-8 billion in the US alone because 8 billion female chickens are killed annually for their flesh (WSJ article)

The CDC reported in 2013 that “Each year in the United States, at least 2 million people become infected with bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics and at least 23,000 people die each year as a direct result of these infections.” 70% of antibiotics are fed to factory housed animals and not used for treating humans.

US Numbers

In the US annually over 9 billion land animals are killed for food. USDA 2015 #s: 9billion chickens, 115 million pigs, 29 million cows.

A vegetarian saves more than 30 land animals, 225 fish, and 151 shellfish each year. More than an animal a day is saved!

273 lbs of flesh is eaten per American/yr.- Cow- 97 lbs, pig 68 lbs, poultry 106 lbs, and other flesh 2.2lbs.

For every 2.2 lbs of high-quality animal protein produced, livestock are fed 13 lbs of plant protein.

This site gives the number of each type of animal killed in the US each year, shows consumer attitudes towards animals as food, shows that the overwhelming number of animals killed are NOT subject to humane farming laws, shows states with Ag Gag laws Georgia Numbers

GA 2017 top ag products by cash receipts/export value: (1)Chicken flesh: $4,376/$455 2. Cotton: $850/$660 3. Peanuts and products: $721/$535  4. Misc. horticultural products: $411/$248  5. Tree nuts and fruit $348/$241

Think tank predicts animal ag collapses in 2030, plants less $.

Cows are better represented in the US than humans are.

Global Numbers

2016 UN estimates 68 billion land animals & 1-3 TRILLION fishes/year are killed for food.

This site gives a map of the most deadly countries and shows the average global water footprint of animals and their products.

US Numbers

Even with cultural adaptation (convincing people to love burgers & chicken nuggets, selling chicken feet to China) millions of tons of meat, organs, bone, and other undesired carcass fractions are forced into extremely low-value sectors, such as animal feed and the chemicals industry (gums, glues, etc.).

US is particularly abusive

The US under-regulates and sets their standards significantly lower then the EU. Genetically modifying the animals raised and killed, these animals suffer from their own body and the conditions imposed on them. This report outlines the genetic hell imposed on cows, pigs, chickens, turkeys and fish.

Chickens

Nearly 1 million chickens and turkeys are unintentionally boiled alive each year in U.S. slaughterhouses, often because fast-moving lines fail to kill the birds before they are dropped into scalding water, Agriculture Department records show.

Cage free just means the hens must have access to outdoor areas no matter how small or inaccessible due to number of hens, it does not eliminate the unanesthetized debeaking, does not stop the inhumane transport or killing of hens.

Trapped in genetically modified bodies, if humans grew at a similar rate, a 6.6 lb baby would weigh 660 pounds in 2 months.

Chickens slaughtered while conscious is standard practice.

Turkeys

This Video exposes cruel and filthy conditions for 25,000 female turkeys locked inside sheds at a turkey breeding factory where they spend their lives being artificially inseminated over and over again − a frightening and violent process − to continually lay eggs.

Fish

Fish are subject to a range of practices that we know would induce severe suffering if applied to other animals of whom we accept as feeling pain. This includes mainstay practices in industrialised fishing such as death by asphyxiation, live cutting practices, and forms of injury sustained by encounters with fishing gears.

Rabbits

There are little/no animal welfare rules for rabbits during their life, transport to slaughter or during slaughter.
